The Most Beautiful Thing I Ever Saw

Thanks to my friend Elle, I learned today (January 8) would have been First Doctor William Hartnell's 106th birthday. I've spoken at length about Hartnell's tenure as the Doctor, and how the show began to find its legs under his time. But what I always find fascinating about the First Doctor is going back and watching all those surviving episodes and seeing how the great love affair he has with his TARDIS is already there. I love how Matt Smith has paid tribute to this affair, using it as the backdrop when he tells those children how it all began with "a daft old man who stole a magic box".
