Bat-Vember #8: The Trinity

Description

Reaching the eighth installment of this, I've gone a whole week and it has actually been pretty good. I've established some pretty set goals in terms of how I want to go about the whole enterprise and I also seen an increase in my eyeballing different ideas that jump out from the media. As such, I probably won't always have Batman be a central focus, as I said earlier in my journal entry, but having him a part of groups that are difficult to think of without him are a no brainer, such as DC's own Trinity with Superman, Wonder Woman, and of course Batman.

The placing of Wonder Woman on the same scale of importance with Batman and Superman probably happened due to her overwhelming popularity in light of declining sales of most other superhero comics. In fact, after 1951 and until 1956 it was she, along with the solo and headlining titles of Batman and Superman and the backup adventures of the Legion of Superheroes, Green Arrow, and Aquaman, that made up a large chunk of DC's superhero stable in this fallow period between the Golden Age and the Silver Age. And of course Superman and Batman did continue on past the end of the Golden Age: Superman enjoyed quite possibly one of his biggest periods of popularity (helped a lot by the production of "The Adventures of Superman" starring George Reeves) and Batman, entering his own fallow period with multiple science fiction stories and a general "dumbing down" from the atmospheric detective stories of before, was still a strong enough seller that he carried on generally without a hitch until the beginning of the following decade.

The Trinity, of course, refers to the Christian concept of The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit/Ghost (aka God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit) that live in perfect unison with one another, existing at the center of the universe. Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman are examples of that to the DC Comics Universe, looked upon and idolized by many heroes and even respected by their villains. The concept of who might be who in the Trinity is debatable and I'm not even going to try to rationalize it. Just note that the importance of those three heroes as those who people think of when thinking of DC Comics, in much the same way that Spider-Man, Hulk, and Wolverine are those whenever one thinks of Marvel Comics, or Hellboy being the main mascot for Dark Horse.
